It’s February, and it's hot… I mean now it's cold... oh shoot... it's hot again…
One thing we love about San Diego is that our cold days do not last forever. Even when it gets chilly, we usually wait a week and a string of warm days are usually not far behind. If only we had a way to keep our pools ready for those warm days, even in the winter, AND with a zero carbon footprint.

In the past we could only rely on water solar pool panels to extend our swimming season by a couple of months. They are effective during warm weather at harnessing a little old-fashioned sunlight to increase the water temp. In the right situation this can be a great way to heat your pool. But when our sunny days come after a few gloomy ones we know that the water is not going to be warm enough to hop right in. We can either spend a small fortune on gas to heat the pool or join the polar bear club.

Finally, we have another option!
Heat pumps have been around for a few years now and you may have heard a thing or two about them. They are designed to heat and keep you pool at a constant temperature throughout the year. Heat Pumps are a great alternative to more traditional pool heating methods. They are best suited for homes equipped with photovoltaic electric solar power panels because they rely on electricity to operate.

Heat pumps operating on a photovoltaic solar system are the only truly GREEN way to heat and maintain your desired pool water temperature. This is quite the achievement when one considers the cost and environmental impact of doing the same with natural gas or propane heaters. Both the cost of natural gas and electricity are going up. All the more reason to consider this alternative today! Heat pumps, like gas heaters, require a lot of energy to power them. Much like an electric car, the true savings come when you can create your own power at home.

When considering if a heat pump is the right move for you, remember that Kohler Pools were among the first in the area to offer this technology. We are one of the most experienced installers in Southern California and have been doing it for years now. Our heat pump consultations will determine if your pool system is a good candidate for installation. So call us today for warmer water any day of the year.
