Local Company Saves the World

Alright, that headline may be a bit of an exaggeration but we all know how clicks work these days. While the whole world may not have been saved, the pool world was, and is being saved by Pool RX (based in San Clemente).  If you have ever been to our store or had one of our technicians in your yard chances are we have mentioned this product. And for good reason. This year, due to COVID-19 along with other factors, the pool industry experienced a major shortage of chlorine. Producers of this chemical reduced their production leaving pool owners and maintainers with out one of the most essential chemicals in pool maintenance. Chlorine acts as the main sanitizer in pools, even a salt pool relies on chlorine to keep it clean. However there are alternative chemicals that can supplement a certain amount of chlorine use.

For many years pool owners and service professionals have worked to find ways to reduce algae growth and chlorine demand at the same time. Chances are you may have seen pools or fountains with pennies at the bottom, and no we're not talking those wishing wells at the mall. Minerals such as copper have actually been proven to help prevent the growth of algae. Pool RX calls on a proprietary blend of low impact minerals to kill microscopic algae before it has the chance to grow.  When this happens chlorine that would have been used up to kill that tiny algae is free to move on to other contaminates, like the stuff the dog just dragged into the pool. This means that the overall amount of chlorine needed to keep a pool clean is greatly reduced. Typically the industry standard for ideal chlorine measurement is about 3 parts per million or greater. At this level we can usually assume, along with proper filtration and circulation, that algae should not be growing. By using this simple and affordable method to transition your pool to a mineral system you can reduce that 3 ppm need by 30-60%. Earlier this year, when chlorine was more difficult to acquire, pools on the Pool RX system had an insurance policy against algae. Pool owners could confidently stretch each gallon of chlorine longer and still maintain a clean and safe environment for their families to continue swimming.

The impact of Pool RX reaches far past chlorine alone. For those using salt pools, which create their own chlorine, Pool RX can reduce the amount of acid needed to keep a pool balanced. Chlorine production in a salt cell naturally raises the ph of the pool. With less chlorine needed to keep the pool safe, a salt cell's production can be reduced by up to 50% or more. This can help extend the life of your cell, minimize the frequency of cleaning and reduce the amount of acid bottles needed to control ph spikes. Now pool chemistry has many more parameters to keep in mind and there is no substitute for proper balancing of all these chemicals. We ALWAYS recommend getting your water professionally tested before adding any chemicals, period. Kohler offers free water testing and provides full reports of water chemistry. Stop by to get your water tested and pick up the number one mineral system on the market.
