Kohler Golf Becomes A Rivalry

Ladies and Gentleman, Kohler Pool Service has found the new greatest rivalry in sports!
Yankees vs Red Socks, Magic vs Bird, Ali - Frazier…. Sorry, we are getting carried away, lets get back to the right sport.
Tiger versus Phil, Jack versus Arnold, Europe v U.S… golf’s greatest rivalries just got another, well… um, rivalry. This time it is a bit more local (even more local than Tiger - Phil). Drawing a little inspiration from our recent mini golf battle we again decided to hit the links. This time they were full sized (as in not mini, you know). So Nan and Marc graciously hosted Lucas and Kellen at a local North County golf course.

From the ping of the driver on the first tee box it was clear that this course was going to be a lot more challenging than the last. But no course is too much for these golf greats. Early in the front 9 it became clear that Kellen had come to play. Hitting fairways and greens he turned into the betting favorite as Vegas shifted the live odds shifted in his favor. Gaining multiple strokes on the field in the first few holes.
The broadcast team (if there were one) would have compared it to one of Tiger’s most dominant performances, that is if the round had ended on hole 4. But golf is a marathon, not a sprint. Kind of like pool care. It takes focus over the long run, because it can all flip at a moment's notice.
The team of golfers and their gallery of hundreds of spectators continued along. Ok maybe not hundreds of spectators but there was Nan's mom on the 7th fairway. She laughed at all of our tee shots then left.

As the group made their way around the course to approach the turn, Marc refused to break focus. He was locked in just like his attention to detail when he is on a job installing equipment. Getting a little greedy, Kellen decided to grab some birdy juice at the turn. While Marc stayed grinding to maintain striking distance, by hole 12 the shift in momentum was clear.
Feeling the pressure, Kellen began to make mistakes. Big ones. Ones that ended with sand in his shoes and his ball in the water. Stroke by stroke, shot by shot, Marc made his way back. As the group stood on the 18th tee box only a stroke separated these golf titans. The drama filled closing hole ended as it began, with Kellen clinging to his razor thin lead.
Final Score: Marc - 117 Kellen - 116
Ok so the course record was safe. We are not sure why but this course decided it wanted to put sand traps everywhere, but we found them all. Amongst the shadows of a north county course, a Saturday afternoon round was the setting for a great day spent with the Kohler Team.
